Fat Cells

A brief summery about fat cells.

There are two types of fat cells, brown and white fat cells that are only found in mammals. Both of these fat cells do two really different things. The brown fat cell looks really scrambled and has little droplets of fat everywhere. The white fat cell stores fat in side it until it is needed, the fat is all in one big blob in the middle of the cytoplasm taking up almost all the room in the cell. The brown fat cell does the opposite, it burns the fat and has lots of mitochondria and it keeps the body warm. In other words the brown fat cell is considered as “Baby fat” because it is only found in babies and adults do not need it. The white fat cell is really big for a cell, they are usually 0.1mm big. 30 billion white fat cells is equal to 30 lbs. The fat in the white fat cell is so big that it causes the organelles to move to one spot of the cell. Another proper word for fat is called adipose because the tissue that fat cells are in is called adipose tissue. The fat cells consist of smooth endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum, vacuole, mitochondria, ribosomes, nucleus, golgi apparatus, a cell membrane, cytoplasm and fat reservoir. here are some drawings of fat cells.

The M is the mitochondria, Lv is the fat reservoir and N is nucleus
