How Do Pigeons Find Their Way Home?

Pigeons smell their way home.

For years it has been an exploration to understand the unsolved mystery on animal navigation on how they find their way home, be it dogs or pigeons, it just hasn’t been solved directly.

Some think it is magnetism, the sun rising in the east, and setting in the west, allows the pigeons to have a time of day and night, but also they have visual landmarks, and in this way know where to find their homes.

Pigeons use their smell to get home in some places, but it is the smell of the region that gets the there, if they don’t smell it is not possible to get home.  The actual theories of pigeons finding their way home,  are figured out by magnetic fields, land marks, using roads, a map of memory which is built-in, and their abilities of  many combinations.

What has been said are mainly theories, nobody can say for sure how it happens, the ability of birds to navigate, has been a mystery.  Despite all the training, and other obstacles pigeons still find their way home.  The Italians think pigeons get back home by smell, the Germans think by magnetic fields, after experimenting.

A very amusing article on pigeons. It causes one to think if there are any other treasures in the world of birds.
