Most birds build nests in trees or buses. The mother bird lays eggs in the nest and the babies grow up in it.

Our home is the most comfortable and the safest lace for us. It protects us from heat, rain and cold. No one harms us in our home.

Animals make homes to be safe and comfortable. They hide from their enemies and keep their babies safe in them. They also find shelter from heat, rain and cold winds.

Squirrels have homes in the hollows of the trees. They sleep, keep warm and store food for the winter in their homes.

Rabbits dig long tunnels under the ground. These tunnels are called burrows. Foxes also live in deep burrows with many doorways.

Different kinds of birds make different kinds on nests. A tailor –birds joins two or three leaves with its beak. It uses thread, wool or dry grass to join the leaves. The wood packer pecks the trunk of a tree to make a hole. This hole is its nest. The penguin just collects a few pebbles and bones to make a nest on the ground.

Animals find their homes as comfortable as we do ours.

Some important birds

  • Parrots are well- known for their mimicry of human voices. Some can mimic 300 or more words. An African grey parrot called Alex was trained by scientist named Irene pepper berg. Alex was able to identify 50 objects. He could ask for each of these objects in English-and also refuse them.
  • Swifts are the fastest flying birds. They can fly at a speed of 240 km per hour. Some swifts can fly non-stop for as long as 3 years!
  • The bee hummingbird is the world’s smallest bird- including its long beak; it measures just 5 cm and weighs only 2 grams.
  • Male ducks are called drakes and females simply ducks. Baby ducks are called ducklings.
