They are the deadly attraction. But they are eye-catching butterfly.
As beautiful as it sounds, the monarch butterfly is a deadly attraction to its prey. It is foul tasting and poisonous to birds and other insects. Most of the creatures will avoid them as it causes nausea. The poison of the monarch is originating from the milkweed which they consumed while they were laying eggs on the milkweed plant.

Monarch butterflies are found in North America, some were seen in New Zealand and Australia as they are also migratory butterfly. They belong to the family of Nymphalidae. Their wingspan ranges from 8.9-10.2cm. Female monarch has a darker vein in the wing whereas male monarch has thinner vein and white spot in their hindwing. It is a gland that produces pheromones to attract females. In other hand, the male is larger than the female.

The monarch is brightly in colour which indicates as a warning sign to other preys.
Monarch is unique in their migratory route. They tend to migrate to the south such as the transvolcanic areas in Mexico, Pacific island and in Kansas. The most amazing thing about the monarch is those who migrate to the South will not be return to their birth place but their offsprings will and this puzzles the researchers for years.
This beautiful creature has facing a number of threats such as the eggs are consumed by little bird, parasites and a plant named black swallow wort plant (especially in North America). Monarch’s eggs which lay on the black swallow wort plant (which is similar with milkweed) will poison by the toxicity of the plant.
