Most of us agree that water is precious. However, not many of us heed the need to preserve the water resource, namely such as rivers, streams, and lakes. Many consumers are still unaware that the source of for tap water supply for most areas is derived from the above-mentioned sources. As such, it is crucial that consumers play a more proactive role in preserving them. You can immediately stop disposing rubbish, toxic, chemicals, oil, grease and harmful substances into the waterways or sewerage system.
It has become the norm to relate the main source of water pollution to sewage treatment plants. In reality, there are other polluters such as acid rain, dead microscopic and organism, dead fish, squatters, poultry farms, industrial factories and makeshift latrines in construction sites. Also included are septic tanks, whose owners refuse to remove the accumulated sludge regularly and about 2,000 sewage treatments plants, which are privately owned and not properly maintained.
Water pollution sure is becoming a serious problem worldwide. Scientist even suggest that it is the leading cause for death and disease. It is estimated that nearly 14,000 people die daily from drinking water that is polluted. So, who is to be blame? We are.
