How to Make Your Own Drain Opener with Household Supplies

Make your own drain opener. Remove the clogs with common household items. Check this article to see how easy and inexpensive it can be.

Do you have a drain that is slow or stopped up. You don’t like to use the harsh chemicals that most drain openers are made of. The cost of commercial drain openers can be quite high. You can make your own drain opener for a fraction of the cost of using the commercial variety. Most homes have what is needed to make this drain opener. All you need is water, baking soda, and vinegar.

Household Ingredients:

1 cup baking soda

1 cup vinegar

pot of boiling water

Directions: Add one cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar to a pot of boiling water. The mixture will fizz, pour the mixture down the drain you are having problems with. The fizzing action from the combination of vinegar and baking soda will dissolve greasy, fatty clogs in the drain. Give it some time to work on the clog and then flush the drain with tap water.

I use this method rather than buy expensive drain openers that are extremely poisonous. If you have young children or pets in the house, give this method a try.

To Avoid clogs from occurring from grease build up in your pipes. Do not rinse grease down the sink, remove the cooled grease and place in an empty container that you can seal then through it away when it is full. Some communities even offer grease and oil recycling if you are lucky enough to live in one of those communities take advantage of those services.

Maintaining your pipes – grease free – Once a week pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain to flush the pipes of grease build-up. Some serious clogs may require a plumbers snake, or for a plumber to come to the house.
