Can a Pedophile Change?
Or is that even the right question?
This question has been debated for a long time, and many think they cannot be changed. I will go so far as to say that ANYONE who is behaving immorally (regardless what immoral behavior they’re engaged in) CAN change. I believe people asking if a pedophile CAN change are asking the wrong question.
So what question should be asked?
Is a pedophile willing to change?,would actually be the better question. Any true repentance will begin with a desire to change their ways. Without them having the willingness to change, all the rehab in the world won’t do a thing.
I write this article to open the topic for discussion. To anyone who has been victimized by a pedophile, my heart goes out to you.

Sorry but I don’t believe they can.
That is why habitual rapists should recieve capital punishment

Joe,
I believe they can change, skeptical as many people may be. If murderers can change, and if rapists can change, then pedophiles too can change. One sin is just as heinous as the next, it is humanity who has tried to claim there were “degrees” but ALL evil is equally evil, regardless the form it takes.

The root of a pedophile’s problem is the same as any other sexual predator. Lust. Deal with the ROOT sin, and you can progress to deal with the crimes that stem from it.

JNR,
Anyone can change. But to do so, they most whole- heartedly have the desire to change. Pedophilia is like being a alcoholic or a junkie. Once you’ve been there, the temptation is the strongest when you try to give it up. This is why so many succumb to it once more. Pedophilia is something these people will live with the rest of their lives. I know this, because I’ve done a lot of research on the subject. I even had one to tell me he was going to move to a deserted island to get away from the temptation. He told me living in total seclusion would be the only way he wouldn’t ever re-offend. Last time I heard from him, that’s exactly what he did. He said he’s very happy with his new life.

I think that the question could be – is pedophilia just a ’sexual orientation’ that we are born with? Right now this particular orientation is not protected by the political correctness police, so it is okay to say that it is wrong.Hopefully it will stay that way.

I agree with you 100%. Yes, of course a pedophile can change if they are willing. There is nothing that is impossible for God. You asked the right question for they must be willing to change.

Excellent reply. The root is the same as any other sin.

Sharing on FB. This piece is short, to the point and answers the question well. Why would any Christian doubt whether a pedophile can change? I did hear a story on FB of a pedophile pastor who resumed the pastorate after being released from jail. The children could not come into the church because the pastor could not be near children by law. Now that Pastor should have stepped down. Yes, God forgives but why forbid children from being able to worship with their parents? Jesus said to bring the little children unto him. This pastor was unable to follow that command. Therefore he should step down until these his legal issues are cleared.

They can stop having sex with children, but their attraction is a fix point.
They will always be attracted to children.

“but their attraction is a fix point.
They will always be attracted to children.”
On what do you base that assertion? Pedophilia is a perversion, a deviancy, people overcome other deviant behaviors/attractions all the time, so a pedophile’s attraction is NOT a fixed point. Saying a pedophile will always be attracted to children undermines the very concept of free will.
People CHOOSE their behavior. Daily people decide what they will or won’t do.
To anyone who says a pedophile’s attraction is a fixed point I have to say I respectfully disagree.

As a post script, people should guard their hearts, minds, and souls, so that corruption of any form cannot get a foothold.
If they protect their hearts, minds, and souls in the 1st place they won’t have as big a problem. Everyone faces temptation of some form, but people still choose whether to let their temptations rule them or not.
