A threatened species is different from a endangered species. A threatened species is a species that is close to becoming endangered, but there is a more likely chance of saving the species. An endangered species is lower in populations than a threatened species, and a less likely chance of being saved.

      The species I chose is the Australian Sea Lion. I chose this marine animal, because I like sea lions, especially to draw them, and I’ve always found them interesting. My species is on the endangered list because it often gets hunted. It can only be found near Australia, and they are often killed for their hide and oil. They are killed off sharply by the entanglement into fishing nets, and the thought of food shortages for such animals and possibly fighting to outbreak within males during the breeding season may be a cause of endangerment and declining populations.

      The Australian Sea Lion would be found in the nekton layer of the ocean. They are strongly free swimmers and are often found near the plankton layer as well. Australian Sea Lions enjoy a warmer temperature, not too warm, but one of the reasons of why they would be found only on the ridge of Australia. A high salinity amount and a low minimum of pressure is preferred. The Australian eats mainly fish, sometimes an occasional penguin(sadly) if lucky. Though they eat meat, they are often eaten by large sharks, especially the great whites, prey on them. The Australian Sea Lions would be known as a secondary consumer.

      To help save the devastating decline of the Australian Sea Lions, we could do a fairly large amount of protection regulations. We could reduce the allowed amount of large fishing nets around Australian coasts, to prevent the animal from being trapped. Although there’s already a law against poaching, we could prohibit if from ever being able to use on the Australian Sea Lion, and stop the allowance of shooting for hides and oil. We should do these things because this species is an animal. Being cruel and letting them die could killing other animals as well, and what good would that do us? They deserve a free life in their habitat, and we shouldn’t be the one to take it away from them.
