An Aging Population is Set to Reduce Global Warming significantly by 2050

Lead researcher with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research Emilio Zahgeni observed that the study was typically for the Unites States population although he is convinced this trend could apply globally.

According to Demographers,  global warming will be a thing of the past in America by 2050 when the aging population become a bigger percentage of the age structure. In their discourse, the demographers noted that there was a striking relationship between age and a person’s carbon dioxide emissions, with older people emitting far less carbon dioxide than the youthful population.  Retirees are therefore environmentally friendly inhabitants of the earth whose presence in a population can help in the decline of global warming.

Lead researcher with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research Emilio Zahgeni observed that the study was typically for the Unites States population although he is convinced this trend could apply globally.

In the US, the age structure of the population is changing as revealed by the past four Censuses-the majority of the Americans are heading towards the 65 age bracket-more Americans are getting older and older without a surge in the youthful population. This is a direct opposite in developing countries where the younger population stands at close to 60 % of the general population.

The researchers therefore believe that societies with an increasing aging population and consumption patterns like those of the US will soon see their carbon dioxide emissions drop dramatically. Data collected from this study revealed that before the age 65, most Americans spend a lot on energy intensive products and services like electricity, gasoline and air travel but as they strike the age 65, this consumption pattern changes with spending emphasis on their health and reduced travel which produces lower amounts of greenhouse gas emissions.

Thanks for teaching me something today. If I had a job (I cannot work, not unemployed because of economy) I would have 25 more years before I would retire.

That’s a very interesting theory. It certainly makes sense but a lot could change in 49 years..
