Studying the genetics of circadian rhythms, the researchers found that exposure to light affects not only the biological functions associated with the awakening of man, but also on reproduction and DNA repair.

The experiments were conducted on fungi Neurospora crassa. It turned out that daylight manages 2,500 of 10,000 genes present in it.

The discovery made by four universities in the U.S. and Germany, showed activation of metabolic signals. Now scientists can decipher the impact of daylight on the genes and circadian rhythms of man.

After switching on the light after a few minutes to run the genetic mechanisms that affect everything from the development of spores to pigmentation, carbon metabolism, cell cycle, regulation of nitrogen, DNA repair and other functions.

Research has shown that light affects the 24 “transcription factor” – the basic genetic regulators, activating a number of other genes that control the physical and behavioral aspects. For example, if the fungus is grown in the dark, it will be white. But two minutes stay in the light stain it orange.

Of course, one can not equate the genes of the fungus with the human genome. But scientists believe that the effect on metabolism has more similarities than differences.

Research shows that the violation of rhythms for the night and has a much greater effect on the body.
