Colorful Birds with The Most Elegant and Attractive Tails
Beautiful birds with the most prolific and attractive tails.
Do you believed that human beings have tails also just like other animals? As embryos, we have a tail that measures about one-sixth of our size as embryo. As we develop into a fetus, the tail is absorbed by the growing body.
1.) Ribbon-tailed Astrapia (Astrapia mayeri)

The Ribbon-tailed Astrapia is a beautiful bird with more than I meter long tail. The male of this velvet black bird of paradise with iridescent olive green and bronze plumage, has two extremely long, ribbon-like white tail feathers. This spectacular bird has the longest tail feathers in relation to body size of any bird, over three times the length of its body. It is native to Papua New Guinea. This threatened species is also known as Shaw Mayer’s Astrapia.
2.) Wilson’s Bird-of-Paradise (Cicinnurus respublica)

The Wilson’s Bird-of-paradise is a colorful bird with the most intricate tail. The male of this red and black bird-of-paradise with a yellow mantle on its neck, light green mouth and rich blue feet has two curved violet tail feathers. It is native to Indonesia and feeds on small insects and fruits.
3.) Blue-crowned Motmot (Momotus momota)

The Blue-crowned Motmot is a beautiful and colorful bird native to Mexico, Central and South America. It can reach a length of up to 48 cm. it has very long tail with a bare-shafted racket tip. This unique bird feeds on small insects and fruits.
4.) Exclamatory Paradise Whyda (Vidua interjecta)

The Exclamatory Paradise Whydah is a lovely-looking bird with stunningly long tail. It can be found in many African countries such as Chad, Benin, Nigeria and many others. It is also commonly known as Uelle Paradise Whydah and Long-tailed Paradise Whydah.
5.) Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise (Paradisaea raggiana)

The Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise is a colorful and pretty large bird native to New Guinea. It is locally known as Kumul or Cenderawasih. This magnificent-looking bird is the national bird of Papua New Guinea. This bird-of-paradise species, which can grow up to 34 cm in length, is adorned with a pair of long black tail wires and large flank plumes. It is also known as Count Raggi’s Bird-of-Paradise.
6.) Lady Amherst’s Pheasant (Chrysolophus amherstiae)

The Lady Amherst’s Pheasant is a uniquely colored bird with very long tail endemic to China and Myanmar. It can grow up to 120 cm in length with its tail accounting for 80 cm of the total length. The “cape” can be raised in display.
7.) Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao)

The Scarlet Macaw, one of the most brightly colored birds in the world, is a large, colorful macaw endemic to the Americas. The bird is the national bird of Honduras. It can grow as long as 81 cm in length. The tail of the Scarlet macaw is also remarkable for its bright coloration.
8.) Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus)

The Golden Pheasant, one of the most beautiful and brilliantly colored birds in the world, is a gamebird native to China. It can grow up to 105 cm long with its tail accounting for 2/3 of the total length. Its central tail feathers are black spotted with cinnamon as well as the tip of the tail being a cinnamon buff. The upper tail coverts are the same color as the central tail feathers.
9.) Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno)

The Resplendent Quetzal is an impressive bird of Mexico and Panama. It can reach a length of up 36 cm excluding its tail which is usually up to 64 cm long. Resplendent Quetzals have a green body and red breast.
10.) Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus)

The Indian Peafowl is a large and brightly-colored bird of South Asia. The male, which is known as Peacock, has predominantly blue tail with beautiful eyespots that looks very impressive.

It feeds on berries and grains and occasionally preys on snakes, lizards and small rodents. Peafowl has the most magnificent display of tail among other birds in the world.

It is also commonly known as Blue Peafowl. The female is known as Peahen. This lovely bird is the national bird of India.
