For years the lion has been considered the king of beasts.  This has changed as there are many people than now consider the tiger the rightful king of beasts.  Tigers are bigger than lions weighing over 400 pounds.  There have been a few that have weighed over 700 pounds.  Tigers are very strong and they can run very fast.  Tigers are the largest wild cat living on earth.

Tigers live in some of the worlds worst environments.  The Amur tigers live in the deep snow and cold temperatures of the Siberian region of northeast Russia and China.  They are also known as the Siberian tiger.  The Bengal tigers live in the hot climates of India and south central Asia.  The Amur tiger is said to be bigger than the Bengal tiger.

Even though tigers are large and strong they are in danger of becoming extinct.  The Caspian tigers, Javan tigers and Bali tigers became extinct in the 20th century.  There are five other sub-species that are in danger of becoming extinct.  It is said the South China tigers are already extinct in the wild.  There are very few Amur and Sumatran tigers left.  The Indo-Chinese tigers are still roaming freely but there are only a few of them left.

There are still a large number of Bengal tigers but they are also in danger of extinction.  Tigers are in danger of extinction for 3 main reasons.  First their habitat is rapidly disappearing and this makes their survival difficult.  Many of them kill livestock because their natural prey is scarce.  This gets them killed.  Tigers are killed for their fur, teeth, claws and other parts of their body because of the demand for them on the black market.

Beautiful animals. Years ago when I was single, I went to the Omaha zoo and there was a caged white tiger. It was cold out and not many people there. The tiger paced and paced. He seemed distraught. I started singing aloud to him and he stopped and stared me straight in the eye. It was an amazing moment.
