Haven’t we all watched the beautiful butterflies go fluttering by. Each species comes dressed in their own unique design and color.

       Here are some interesting and different facts about butterflies for you to enjoy.

A butterfly can range in wide variety of sizes. It truly is amazing. They can be as small as 1/8 inch to an unbelievable 12 inches.

Butterflies do have skeletons, but they are on the outside of their bodies. They are called exoskeletons. This helps protects the butterfly and helps keep the water inside their bodies so they do not dry out.

A butterfly is extremely light in weight, it weighs only about as much as a couple of flower petals, yet the butterfly can fly for thousands of miles.

We taste food with our tongues, but not the butterfly, they taste food very differently than we do. They use their feet, this is where their taste sensors are located.

Some butterflies, escapecially the Monarch butterfly, secret a toxin so that predators do not feed on them.

Butterflies do not live very long. The butterflies that live in the Tropics generally have the longest life span and that is about a year. Other butterflies usually live only a few months, some only a few weeks.
