Brown Bears

Facts and features of Brown Bears.

Brown bears aren’t they the cutest!! As winter approaches brown bears prepare for a long hibernation; so the bears practically eat around the clock stocking themselves up for about four to seven months.

As the cold swoops in the female bears enter their den – pregnant with one (sometimes two or three) baby bears. By the time the adult grizzly wakes up in the spring, her baby is strong enough to follow her out of the den.

Nearly half of all brown bears cubs born are likely to die before they’re only one year old; usually from starvation or disease.

Brown bears have many predators such as: Wolves, mountain lions, adult male bears, even a cubs father can be a threat!

But mother brown bears are fiercely protective, so many cubs do survive.

Cubs live with their mothers for up to three years, and then they are usually ready to face life and the big world on their own!

Male brown bears weigh an average of 700 pounds. Females are an average of 350 pounds.

Standing up on their hind legs a male bear can reach up to an average size of seven feet. WOW!!

When you see a bear on its hind legs you automatically think oh no danger! However they’re in fact just getting a better view of its environment.

Brown bears eat meat of animals, such as fish and small mammals.

Bears habitat includes forested mountains, meadows and river valleys.
