The Four Coolest Carnivorous Plants

A list of the four coolest meat eating plants in the world.

The Sun Pitcher Plant

This is an interesting plant. The Sun Pitcher Plant uses the pitfall trap. It consists of a deep cavity filled with a liquid. They attract bugs using colorful pigments and and nectar bribes. The sides of the cavity are slippery and smooth to prevent the prey from climbing out. The pool of liquid at the bottom drowns the insect and slowly dissolves it.

Butterworts

Though this plant doesn’t look very much like a carnivorous plant at first, it happens to be once of the most successful in catching prey. It uses the flypaper system which is based on sticky substances to catch insects. During rainfall, the leafs of this plant roll up to prevent the prey from getting washed off the leaf.

The Sundew

Also using the flypaper system, this plant’s tentacles can bend 180° in 1 minute! And people say that plants move slowly, pshh. This plant’s leaves are capable of fast movement and growth, a great advantage to catching prey.

The Venus Flytrap

This is probably one of the more known/recognized carnivorous plants. It is my favorite. It’s fun to watch eat flies because right when a fly land on it, the Venus flytrap immediately closes shut and dissolves the helpless fly. It is quite entertaining. As you can see in the video, the Venus flytrap can eat other insects and in this case arachnids as well.
