Red Pine

Red pines also know as Norway pine is the most expensive planted species in Canada and are mainly grown for production of wood for lumber. They are large evergreen conifer trees, ranging from 23m to 32m high. Its leaves are evergreen and range from 4″ to 6″ long. Its flowers, which appear in May, are light red if they’re male and reddish-brownish if they’re female. Its fruit are cones around 4 – 6.25 cm long and the cones maturing around August to October. Red pines are normally considered poor for the habitat of animals but, they provide cover and nesting sites too. They are found around Toronto, Quebec, and Montreal.
