Plant Growth and Photosynthesis
As plants grow from a seed, they will produce sugars to stay alive.
When the plants leaves are exposed to sunlight they absorb it combine it with water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients from the soil in a process called photosynthesis. Using these sugars the plant grows. Some plants like bamboo produce sugar in amounts so great that they can grow several feet in a single day. Other plants are very slow at photosynthesising so they take years to grow just a few inches. It all really depends on which plant. Some things that people might think are plants like mushrooms are actually fungi. Fungi lack the green colour that plants have. This green color is caused by chlorophyll. Fungi are usually not exposed to the sun so are unable to produce chlorophyll. Fungi can grow in complete darkness even if the enviromental conditions are suitable. To reproduce plants must drop seeds. These seeds are sometimes enclosed in a fruit like a pear or an apple. So when an animal eats the fruit it will eat the seed. The animal will then poo the seed ouin a different location. Also the manure from the animal is great fertilizer to promote the growth of the seed.
