The world is full of extraordinary things. We still have lots of things to learn about the earth and its creatures. Here are some of the many amazing plants and animals in the world.

  1. Musk Deer

  2. A musk deer has an abdominal gland called a “pod,” that secretes musk, which is used as a base for perfumes.

  3. Barbus Thermalis

  4. Barbus thermalis, a small fish from Sri Lanka lives in hot springs at 50 degrees Celsius.

  5. Polar Codfish

    Polar codfish on the contrary, is comfortable at two degrees Celsius below zero

  6. Nile crocodile

    Reptiles do not care for their young. The female Nile crocodile does guard her nest and when the young crocodiles hatch she takes them down to the water in her powerful jaws. This is such a strange behavior for a reptile that people at first thought that the mother crocodile ate her own young.

  7. Pythons

  8. Pythons developed from prehistoric lizards and they still have the tiny hind legs to prove them.

  9. Horses

  10. Horses where once terrier-sized animals living in the forest but today they are fast, long-legged animals suited to open space.

  11. Cockroaches

  12. Cockroaches have not changed much for more than 350 million years since they appear on the planet.

  13. Deer Fly

  14. Female deer flies are bloodsuckers and can transmit Tularemia.

  15. Frigate Birds

  16. Frigate birds are pirates, stealing fish from other seabirds. The male has an unusual courtship display. He inflates his bright-red throat to attract a mate.

  17. Blue-Ringed Octopus

  18. Blue-ringed octopus is only about 1 ½ in (3cm) long but its poison is strong enough to kill a human.

  19. Sugar Glider

  20. A sugar glider, a type of phalanger, can glide up to 180 ft.55m) from one tree to another.

  21. Oscillatoria

  22. Oscillatoria are blue-green algae that can live in water at 88 degrees Celsius.

  23. Bristle Cone Pines and Creosote Bush

  24. Two of the oldest known species of trees, they can live up to 4,500 years old or older.

  25. Venus Flytrap

  26. Venus’ flytrap is a predatory plant that captures and eats insects.
