Biotechnology- How It Shaped Our Lives (Part 2)

Learn more about the importance of Biotechnology in the different fields.

In the field of industry (white biotechnology)

Well beyond the sector pharmaceutical , biotechnology white play an increasing role in bio-industry, especially in the areas of environment. The technology white , sometimes called second or third generation, tend to use the bacteria used as vectors and / or producing Substances technical and commercial.

White Biotechnology can also contribute to the development of sensors of the state of the environment, its pollution by chemicals. They can be used for the development of processes for recycling innovative. The genetically modified organisms can be used to produce innovative materials, chemicals, very difficult or expensive to obtain by traditional chemistry.

Biotechnology is thus a vast field, with important industrial applications, and in economic terms a very large market:

§  The biocatalysts  : They were used for centuries for the manufacture of food products. They now operate in the innovative processes of “clean” industry ( detergents , textiles , starch and starch , beer , pastries and bread , wine and fruit juice , for the degradation of starch into sugars for the production of alcohol or as a solvent, food additives for improving nutritional qualities of foods, dairy industry for the conversion of lactose sugar assimilated, cheese flavors, aromas biosynthetic food, dyes, synthetic food), feed (for protein hydrolysis fishmeal production with high efficiency), industry of cosmetics (production base creams and collagens ), industry paper (dissolving pulp, bleaching , control viscosity starches), processes of tanning (removal of hair and fat), fat treatment ( hydrolysis of fats and lecithins , esterification , agent production solubility, bio-detergents, soaps and processes of saponification), fine chemicals (pharmaceuticals).

§  Processes enzymatic allow industrial applications “cleaner” whose production of detergents and various surfactants , desizing / désamidonnage of textiles woven by their color and surface treatment, the market for starches and starch , hydrolysis of sugars to starch, food production (processes of fermentation ), other industries (feed, manufacture or processing of paper , including bleaching and deinking , the treatment of leather , the biochemistry fine, or processing of fats and oils).
