Biology One Review

This is a review of Biological terms and knowledge necessary to succeed in biology.

-       Two cell divisions

-       Meiosis I and Meiosis II

-       No DNA replication

-       In metaphase I, Crossing over occurs which is when

Diploid Cell

Haploid Cell

-       Complete set or pairs of chromosomes

-       Somatic cells ex humans 46 chromosomes 23 homologous pairs

-       Result of Mitosis

-       Genetically Identical

-       Half the number of chromosomes

-       No pairs

-       Gametes only ex. Humans 23 unpaired chromosomes in sperm and egg

-       Haploids make diploids

-       Result of Meiosis

-       Genetically different

MEIOSIS AND MITOSIS DIFFERENCE

Meiosis

Mitosis

-       Cell division for the formation of sex cells (gametes)

-       New, unique cells (not identical)

-       ½ the number of chromosomes in each cell

-       Cell division of body (Somatic) cells

-       Identical cells are produced

-       Complete number of chromosomes in each cell

Biology Chapter 7 Test Review

Questions

1)    Cell Theory?

-       Cells are the basic unit of structure for all living things, which are composed of cells

-       All cells are produced from existing cells, cells make cells

2)    Distinguish differences between Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes?

Prokaryotic

Eukaryotic

1)    No nucleus

2)    No membrane bound organelles

3)    Small (compared to Eukaryotic)

4)    Less complex

5)    Unicellular organism (ex. Bacteria)

1)    Nucleus

2)    Membrane bound organelles

3)    Large (compared to Prokaryotic)

4)    More complex

5)    Mostly multicellular organisms

3)    Function of the Nucleus?

-       Control center of the cell

-       Stores genetic information.

4)    Major functions of the cells organelles?

           -  Structures in cells that have a special function

    Wrong. Ch3#2 Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes
Wrong. Ch3#7 Hypotonic and Hypertonic switched

This is misleading information and I did not read the rest
