Albino Humans and Beasts
There are many misconceptions about the condition of albinism and education is always a step in the right direction.
An animal that is white in color does not always characterize it as being an albino. The condition of albinism varies. If the animal species is generally certain colors and an animal is born white it may or may not be an albino. If the color white is completely foreign to that species and the creature has pinkish/red eyes then it certainly carries a dominant albino gene. However. If the creature is unnaturally white, but has blue eyes the beast may just have a varied form of albinism.

Albino Humans
Albinism is caused by genetics and the inability of the gene mutation to produce pigmentation, which is normal to the species. Animals and humans with albinism lack melanin to protect their eyes and skin.
Humans who have albinism have a higher rate of skin cancer and have very sensitive eyes as their irises have an absence of color. They will most likely wear tinted glasses, use magnifiers and need vision therapy. Students in a classroom may need to read things in larger print. But like any human, they have the potential to live full, productive and normal lives.
Albinism is the absence of pigmentation in skin, hair and eyes. It is not a connected to retardation or a lower brain function. Albino humans certainly have the same strengths and weaknesses as all humans and they are not completely limited by their condition. Animal species as well are not limited in their intelligence due to the fact that they lack pigmentation or melanin.

Albino Frog

Albinism exists in all human cultures and races. The complete absence of pigment is a bit more surprising in races of naturally darker skin tones and colors. However, the characteristics of that race will still be prevalent, the human will simply have an albino skin tone with pinkish, bluish and in some cases hazel eyes. Albinos can also have a patchy skin color, rapid eye movement and crossed eyes.

Albino Squirrel

Albino Pheasant

In the wild, it would seem that an albino beast would not be able to survive very long with its loss of ability to camouflage itself against its enemies. That may be why seeing an albino animal roaming free is very uncommon.
I know an African-American albino woman who had three children. All of her children
inherited her albinism gene and look very much albino. Yet, their father is not albino in appearance and yet may have carried a recessive albino gene.
The most difficult part of albinism is that it often is misunderstood in the general public.
People who are albinos always carry a higher risk of being alone, as they might be perceived as being too different in circles outside their own families. Their outward appearance may be shocking to some members of society and this kind of reaction would be tough for anyone to bear.
There is no cure for albinism. Those humans and beasts that are indeed albinos have every chance of living positive, productive lives.
But perhaps we as individuals need to become more educated about albinism. We must not ostracize those who look different from our social groups. We must learn to be kind.

I really admire the humanistic approach that you took in writing this article. Most people see Albinos as some kind of freak of nature. They may look a little different, but every one of us is different in some way. An albinos differences are just more apparent as they face the world each day. People can be so cruel and I thought your blurb about “kindness” spoke volumes for the article’s intent.
Well done!

As an albino, I find this article wonderful and compassionate.
Looking at the last two comments probably made by the same person, I wish to add that correct spelling only adds credibility to your comments. I know some pretty funny imbecile jokes too.
