I guess this is one of the things you are hearing about more and more in these days. A meteor will crush with planet earth causing massive destruction and possibly the doomsday. Well we may ask: Is any meteor of any size coming towards the earth? Has anyone seen it? And if it is big we should start seen it pretty soon, especially if it will impact earth in December 2012, right?
The straight answer to this question is that the Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids. Big hits are very rare and the last is supposed to be the responsible for the extinction of dinosaurs and happened 65 million years ago.
Nowadays organizations like NASA are mapping the universe in search for more knowledge, including any threatening asteroids that may be coming towards planet earth. All this work is done openly with the discoveries posted every day on the NASA web site. So you can see for yourself that nothing is predicted to hit in 2012.
As for the doomsday theories, well if there’s not a meteor coming to hit us, you can always be aware of Planet alignment or solar storms, or even a Mayan calendar that ended in the 21st of December of 2012.
