Water on the Moon
NASA needs two months before concluding anything.
In a mission to search the presence of water on moon, NASA crashed two spacecrafts on lunar surface last Friday. The first spacecraft exploded on Cabeus crater intending to throw up a plume of spray or debris from lunar soil containing any ice or water molecules if they were there. 4 minutes later, a second spacecraft was slammed at that spot planning to fly through the plume of debris, recording data that could make a conclusive assessment of the presence or absence of water or ice on moon. But contrary to expectation, no plume of spray or debris was formed after the first spacecraft crashed on moon. Thus video sent by the second trailing spacecraft contained no concrete data, which can establish the $79 million mission a grand success.
So NASA has sought another 2 months to further investigate the video and data transmitted back from the trailing craft which could assess conclusively about the presence or absence of water on moon.
