Venus
A basic guide about Venus.
Size, Density, and Gravity
Venus is about the same size as Earth, about 12,102 km in diameter and 4.9×1024 kg in mass. Venus’s density is 5.25, slightly lower than Earth’s density. Venus’s gravitational strength is 8.9 N/kg.
Orbit
It takes about Venus 0.62 Earth years for Venus to orbit the Sun once. Its average distance from the Sun is 108 million km, or 0.72 AU. Venus’s average orbital speed is about 35.04 km/s.
Rotation
Venus take 243 Earth days to rotate one on its axis, this makes a Venus day longer than a Venus year. This also makes Venus the slowest-rotating planet in the solar system. Venus’s rotation is also backward, so the Sun rises form the west on Venus.
Physical Features
Venus is a rocky planet like Earth. It also has volcanic activities like Earth. Its weather, however, is dreadful for living. It has the highest temperature of all the planets in the solar system, from 450 oC to 480 oC. The high temperature is the result of the greenhouse effect that the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere created. The atmosphere is also filled with sulfuric acid (H2SO4), which is very corrosive. Venus is the third brightest object in the sky when viewed from Earth, after the Sun and Moon.
