This discovery confirmed the theory states initially adds confidence to share Earth’s orbit with another cosmic body about the size of Mars that later turned into months.
The new system was found in Kepler’s telescope. As quoted by NewScientist, the system there are four planets and two of them orbiting its parent star in the same orbit, a permanent orbiting 60 degrees and the other the opposite.
Most likely this phenomenon occurs because of gravity ’sweet spots,’ said astronomer. When a planet orbiting a much larger body like a star there will be two so-called Lagrange point along the orbit of the planet could be orbiting third body with a stable, well at 60 degrees in front or 60 degrees behind the orbit.
Although in theory could be orbiting the planet together, no one has ever seen this evidence before.
“Such systems are not common. This system is the only one we’ve seen, “said Jack Lissauer of NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
Some astronomers suspect the same thing could happen in our solar system. This refers to the month we are 50 million years ago when Earth collided with a Mars-sized body still.
“These findings show that previously we thought things could not happen,” said Princeton University astronomer Richard Gott.
