The Solar System

The Sun is the centre of our solar system and celestial bodies such as the planets, their moons, the asteroid belt, comets and other objects revolve around the Sun.

Our Solar System came into existence around 4.6 billion years ago. It is a big planetary family. Some visitors like comets and asteroids are also part of our family. The head of this family is the Sun, which provides us heat and light. The strong gravitational pull of the Sun makes all the planets and other heavenly bodies move in their respective orbits around the Sun.

The solar system occupies about 12,000 million kilometers of space. The solar system is a part of the Milky Way Galaxy. We live on the third planet away from the Sun, called the Earth.
