The Rocky Planets
The four rocky planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

Mercury is the colest to the sun.Although its buring hot on this planet during the day , at night it becomes frezing cold. This is because Mercury’s atmosphere is very thin and there are no clouds to trap amd hold warmth during the night.
Although Venus is the second planet from the Sun, it has the hottest surface. It is hotter than mercury because it has a blanket of fast-moving clouds around it.This traps heat from the Sun and stops the heat flowing out into space. The thick atmosphere on Venus is mostly made up of carbon dioxide gas, which would de deadly poisonous for people.
Earth is often called the blue planet, because three-quaters of its surface is covered in water and from space it looks blue. When the Earth formed, a layer of gas formed around it. This layer protects the Earth from geting too hot or too cold. Eventually, rain began to fall and formed our planet’s river, and oceans.
Mars is know the red planet because of the colour of its soil. The surface is rich in iron oxide, which is rust and has a redish colour. Mars has little atmosphere and gets very cold.Like Earth, it has ice caps on its north pole and south pole but the rest of its surface is a dusty red desert.
