The Lights are Out

We had a severe thunderstorm here, the straight line winds took out the power…

A transformer was taken out by the lightening and power lines were down across the street. We had to carry water from the creek, I brought out my old aluminum perculator for coffee.

The lights out

and evening has set

there is no doubt

your prayers be said

morning to get

The lights are out

clouds have hidden the moon

the dark is thick

cayotes creep

before sun’s light

together they swoon

The lights are out

morning’s come

up with the sun

water to carry

before the dusk,

there be no doubt

our prayers be said.

I enjoy a good thunderstorm, and I actually enjoy the power going out, we get to enjoy a simpler way of life, if even for just a day. My children were frightened but they are young. They did help carry water though :)

Blackouts can actually be beautiful, and scary and well described. Beautiful. :)

Last summer, our power was out for a day. Worried about my 89yr old mother living alone, I hurried over to her home to help out. She was smiling, walking around the house with her walker and a flashlight, as happy as she could be! It was almost like a flashback of her childhood, when they didn’t have electricity. Our house was so quiet, no motors running, not a single sound which we aren’t use to. I could hear crickets outdoors, birds chirping, raindrops pattering on the sidewalk, my dog snoring. Good grief, it was like I was hearing these sounds, for the first time! I actually enjoyed it. Like you, I made an inferior cup of coffee and savored every drop. We are overly dependent on electricity and don’t even realize it! Have a beautiful day with the kids.

We had a thunderstorm, too. Our lights didn’t go out, though. We are expected to have severe thunderstorms all day. Good work!

Yes we are too dependent on electricity and running water etc.
It’s great for kids to get experience of life without it.

Usually here in our place we have many thunderstorms during months of June to August. And sometimes we experienced blackouts too. It’s kind of scary here in our place. Often times, we just stay inside our homes and pray. Good share. You describe it well. Good imagery. Thanks.

Power outages make me think to olden times before electricity – a life I’d hate to live without modern conveniences.

in a recent blackout, I lit a bunch of candles, some of them scented candles my sister-in-law had sent me for Christmas at some point. Due to having cats, I don’t burn candles, so I was very careful about where they were, and kept an eye on them. But it was the best smelling blackout I have ever been through! Not scary, really, just inconvenient, as my air conditioning was out too.
Yes, a simpler way of life might do us all good for awhile, to show us how much we have to be grateful for.

We do experience total blackout during typhoons. How I wish it occurs during fine nights when the moon is in full bloom. That would be great.
