Our Closest Neighbor

Moon is our neighbor.

The Moon is the closest heavenly body to the Earth. It is a constant companion of Earth in Space. It is around 384,400 km away from Earth. Unlike Earth, the Moon is lifeless, water-less and air-less. You might have noticed some dark patches on the surface of Moon. These patches are known as craters.

The huge balls of rocks and iron, called meteorites, crashed down on the Moon forming these craters. Though Moon is the brightest object in the night sky, it has no light of its own. It only reflects light from the Sun.

Earth-rise

A famous picture taken from the Moon. It shows the Earth in similar way as we see the Moon from Earth.
