Length of a Day on Each Planet

The asteroids are also called “Planetoids’ or small planets. The main Asteroid belt comprising about 40, 000 Asteroids lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Q~ would you believe that your weight will not be the same on the moon and other plants?

A~ Weight depends on the pull of gravity, and bigger the planet, the stronger the pull of gravity. If your weight is suppose, 36 kg on earth, you would weigh more than 90 kg on Jupiter, the biggest planet, about I / 4  (224g) on Pluto, the smallest planet and 6 kg on the moon where the gravity is 1/6th of that the earth.

Your weight would be 360,000 million kg on the surface of a neutron star because the gravity is so large there.

Length of a day on each planet

The earth is spinning in space on its axis. This turning causes day and night. The earth makes one whole turn every 24 hours, so that is the length of our day. Like earth all planets are turning on their axes and the time each one takes to make a whole turn is thought of as a day on that planet.

The chart given here tells bout the length of a day on each planet. A day on the planet mercury is 59 earth days, i.e., 59 x 24 = 1416 hours long. Jupiter rotates so fast that a day lasts only less than 10 hours.

The asteroids are also called “Planetoids’ or small planets. The main Asteroid belt comprising about 40, 000 Asteroids lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Orbit

Image via Wikipedia

Orbit- the curved path along which an object revolves around another object, determination by the laws of gravity and motion –like the orbit of a planet as it moves around the sun or a moon as it travels around a planet.

Parsec is also used to measure distance. A light year is 0.3066 parsecs.

Perihelion and Aphelion- earth’s perihelion is the day its orbit brings it closest to the sun, 3 January. Earth aphelion is the day it is furthest fro the sun, 4 July.

Planets- a planet is any spherical body that orbits around a star, and shines along with reflected light. Planets also have atmosphere, asteroids do not have. Planets began life at the same time as their star, from leftover clouds of gas and dust. They are never more their 20 % of the size of their star. Some planets, called terrestrial planets have a surface of solid rock. Other, called gas planets have surface of liquid or airy gas. The solar system has 8 planets-Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Over 160 planets have been detected orbiting stars other than the sun. These are called extra solar planets.
