Eclipses This 2009

Dates and locations on where the eclipse can be seen.

Another set of lunar and solar eclipses are about to invade the Earth this 2009.Watch out for magnificent event on the following dates this year:2009.

  1. January 26, 2009: Annual Solar Eclipse. Visible in the Indian Ocean and western part of Indonesia and can partially be seen in southeast Asia, Africa and Australia. Its path will start at the Atlantic when the Moon’s antumbral shadow meets Earth. The central track continues northeast where it finally encounters land in the form of the Cocos Islands and onward to southern Sumatra and western Java and will end in Mindanao, Philippines.
  2. Febrary 9, 2009: Penumbral Lunar Elipse. To experience the entire event, one must be in Alaska, Hawaii, Australia or east Asia. This event is the deepest penumbral eclipse of the year which  can be easily seen by th naked eye. USA (mainland) and Canada won’t be able to catch this event since it begins after moonset.
  3. July 7, 2009: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. This eclipse has a magnetude of 0.156, therefore, it may not be noticed by some being a minor elipse.
  4. July 22, 2009: Total Solar Eclipse. Just 15 days after a lunar eclipse, the biggest eclipse of the year is about to arise. The moon’s shadow will extend over India, China, some Japanese Islands and the South Pacific Ocean. Te path begins at the India’s Gulf of Khambaht. The shadow sweeps Indian cities of Surat, Indore, Bhopal, Varanasi, and Pata. The shadow will travel to Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Burma (Myanmar) before reaching China. Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan and Hangzhou are the southern China cities where the shadow will pass. China’s largest city-Shanghai will experience its totality which lasts for 5 minutes. Then, travels to the South Pacific Ocean.
  5. August 6, 2009: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. Another eclipse that will happen 15 days after the total solar eclipse. Same as the Feb.9 eclipse, this lunar eclipse is not visible or hard to notice by the naked eye.
  6. December 31, 2009: Partial Lunar Eclipse. The last eclipse of the year will happen on the last day of the year. Although, this is just a minor eclipse and can be seen from places in the eastern hemisphere.
