Dramatic Collapse of Earth’s Atmosphere Occurring Now

Our sun goes through phases called solar minimum and solar maximum. During minimum, we see fewer sunspots and activity. During maximum, we see a lot of solar activity. Currently, we are going through a longer than normal solar minimum cycle. It should have ended by now and we should be entering the solar maximum phase.

A normal occurrence with solar minimum is that part of the Earth’s atmosphere (the thermosphere) contracts. During solar maximum, it expands. The expansion during solar maximum keeps the Earth safe from extreme UV rays and radiation, while the Sun is going through its most active phases.

Since we have had an extended solar minimum, we have also seen an extreme contraction of the thermosphere. This is obvious to scientists due to a number of factors. One factor, is the affect on low earth orbiting satellites. These satellites are moving through the thermosphere, so they respond to the contractions and expansions, accordingly. We see differing degrees of drag on the satellites as they move through the thermosphere, depending on the contraction/expansion.

This is where it gets interesting. Currently, we are seeing the largest collapse of the atmosphere that we have ever seen, since record keeping began. Scientists point to an excessive amount of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) in the atmosphere, contributing to the greater than normal collapse of the thermosphere. CO2, combined with the solar minimum, could be causing a 1-2 punch that is making the thermosphere collapse much more than it normally would during solar minimum.

The solar minimum itself can account for 30% of the collapse we are seeing. The CO2 could be contributing another 10% to that amount. But this is where the scientists start scratching their heads. How can we account for the other 60% we are experiencing? We can’t. To add to the confusion…the thermosphere started collapsing before the current solar minimum even began. Basically, the collapse we are seeing now, started during the last solar maximum.

Some scientists think that the thermosphere layer of our atmosphere may have changed in composition. But we wouldn’t have any real answers until we finally break out of this extended period of solar minimum. Another guess is that minor changes in the atmosphere, could be far more important to the thermosphere as a whole, than previously thought.

In my opinion, the scientists don’t know what to think. It sounds like they are waiting for the solar minimum to wrap up before making many assumptions. We are seeing changes in the Earth that have never been documented before. It is important to remember how clueless we really are, and what a short amount of time we have been collecting data that is relevant to all of this.

I think this is worth paying attention to and understanding. Barring any kind of mass extinction or set back of the human race, we are going to see some of the biggest scientific breakthroughs, in human history, over the next few decades. Between issues like this, and breakthroughs in particle physics…we are in for one wild ride. Everything we think we know about science could be turned on its ear, very soon.
