Bats Attack Housefly When Having Sex

Scientists researching on bats have found out and proved that bats are more likely to attack houseflies when they are having sex. Therefore, having sex may prove lethal to houseflies if the predator, bat is around.

Bat biologists from Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Germany researching on bat, have come to a conclusion that when two bats are copulating or having sex, the sound that time, attracts bats and may get a double treat in a single shot. Well, this is likely to be scary for bats to find a safe place to make love away from bats.
Studies have shown that bats are unlikely to find houseflies when they are buzzing around in the walls and in the air. Study in a cowshed where houseflies were present showed that bats could not find them as the sound that those flies produced by their simple buzzing were echoes and reflected in the walls which made it impossible for bats to locate the flies.

     Well, houseflies are indeed the most common meal of bats. Research showed that bats attacked copulating flies very easily and more likely as the sound that those houseflies produced while having sex made bats find out where they are. There rate of attacks on copulating houseflies were really huge comparing to crawling flies that were never attacked.
     During copulation, male houseflies produce a low frequency sound which is even audible to human ears. This low frequency sound is created by the male fly’s wings with a repetition rate of about 122 per second creating a buzz. Hence, while copulating, the houseflies also sends an invitation to their predator for an attack.
    Well, the risk that these houseflies faces from these attacks is that, while having sex, these houseflies creates those sounds and invites the bats. During copulation, these houseflies may not be able to pay much attention to the predators and hence they may not be able to escape quickly when the bats attack the copulating houseflies.
