And God Said, “Let Revolution Be” and There Was Mankind
What if the earth does not revolve around the sun? What are the possible consequences? Certainly, it must have something to do with the evolution of life on earth.
At least in the context of today, the motion of the earth around the sun is a household knowledge. But many centuries ago, it was not the case; it took years of investigation by the once intellectually mighty Greece before it was finally deciphered and taught to mankind that the earth revolved around the sun, instead of the sun revolving around the earth as ordinary natural observations would reveal.
What if the earth does not revolve around the sun? What are the most possible scenarios that would probably happen? Is this celestial motion crucial in the evolution of life on earth? Astronomy and the earth sciences have revealed that the earth’s revolution caused many other natural phenomena. For one, our way of measuring time is based on the earth’s changing position relative to the sun; thus, our way of measuring time would have been a whole lot different otherwise.

Although the earth’s seasons are for the most part caused by the 23 degree tilt of the earth’s axis of rotation, earth’s revolution is also indispensable in order for the four known seasons to occur in regular intervals. Because of it, the northern and southern hemispheres receive sunlight in varying amount alternately; hence the extreme changes in the earth’s surface temperature, giving rise to the seasons. In the case of a stationary earth relative to the sun, half of the earth would be ice; the other half would be a vast expanse of desert land. And in further consequence, that would probably lead to further climatic chaos, putting this planet into becoming a completely harsh and uninhabitable place.
Astronomically speaking, however, the existence of a planet at rest is impossible. It has to revolve around its parent star in order to continue existent. On the account of the sun’s gravitational pull, a fixed earth would simply accelerate towards and disastrously crash into the extremely hot surface of the sun. God must have said, “…and let there be revolution, and there was mankind. “

Thank you everyone for the comments. To Mr. Batman, I respect your opposition about my linking this earth’s fact to God.However, I made mention of the praise “around the sun”, to clarify what is revolution; on that ground and in my opinion people can safely formulate in their own words a definition of what rotation is and for which I have already written an article.
