About Mercury Planet

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, and the second-smallest planet in the solar system. It is about the same size as our Moon. Mercury travels around the Sun faster than any other planet.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, so it has to spin very fast to avoid crashing into the Sun’s surface. It takes 88 Earth-days to complete one revolution around the Sun. from a distance, Mercury looks just like our Moon because its surface is pitted with craters.

Being so close to the Sun, Mercury has very thin atmosphere. Though in the daytime, it is baking hot, during the night, it is too cold. Whatever we know about the planet because of Mariner 10, the only Space probe to visit it.

Internal structure of Mercury.

Ground of Mercury is covered with craters.

The largest crater on Mercury measures about 1,400 kilometers across.

Photograph taken from Earth shows Mercury as a fuzzy disc, difficult to observe against the Sun.
